Formal things

So yes, my formal was on Thursday and I STILL haven't fully recovered. Yay for me, yes? It was pretty fun actually, and certainly better than year 10, when everyone spent the whole time moaning. I love my dress and shoes, even though the idea of putting them back on was the most repulsive thing I could think of at 4:30 Friday morning. I'll have pictures in the next few days off our camera (I have to find the will to re-size them, that's all) and I could post some that other people took before then...
Ok, from the beginning. Hair done at 11:30. Took an HOUR AND A HALF. You know how numb you get after watching Lord of the Rings? Yeah. *rubs butt* Still, so worth it. I adored how the girl did my hair. She chopped it off short (how I usually get it) and then twisted it up so bits were spiky. SO AWESOME. The colour we dyed it the day before still looks awesome now. Must remember to get that same dye again next time. My hair is actually shorter than I usually get it, though, but it looks SO GOOD OMG. Seriously, I haven't stopped squeeing over my hair for about 3 days now.
ANYway. Then I had to get my makeup done at 3:00. Because I'm anal and hate (read: can't) do it myself. That turned out super awesome, too. I got it done at the same place I got my nails done the day before. First manicure, how exciting. In a lame way. Still, my nails were pretty.
Of course, as we didn't have to be at school until 5:00ish, there was a bit of waiting around.
whitetigiris was lucky I was just sitting around, waiting to get dressed when she rang and told me they'd be here in 10 minutes (because we were going in the same car). It was a little earlier than I expected, YASMIN. But it was cool, because her parents hired this little convertible thing to drive to the school in. After about a billion photos... we finally got there! Stephanie (left in year 10 or 11) and Gurkiran (who switched schools last year, I think) came to see everyone at the school. That was sweet seeing them again. Then we got on the buses and finally headed off. Truthfully, I was a bit over it by then, too.
The venue was really nice. The Waters Edge at Pier 1 - right under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and across from Luna Park, which was gorgeous when all lit up at night. We ate pretty much right away after we sat down (after the boys got patted down - HAHA!). The food was so much better than year 10, too. I had cannelloni for starters and then steak for main (which we at table 6 called 'the piece of cow' for the rest of the night). Seriously, it was pretty huge. I couldn't finish it. I can't remember what the other options were - stir fry with beef and chicken with something, that's it! - but what I got was definitely the most appetising, IMO. Then we got to dance! Yay, my favourite part! Yas and I were really the only two from out group who consistently danced to songs. Of course, that killed my feet and made me dislike my shoes alittle lot. And we weren't allowed to take our shoes off. Boo. But yeah, there was some great, good and crap music played. The Michael Jackson songs were fun, admittedly, and everyone knew the words to Billie Jean. Love Shack went off. All the older songs (even remixed versions) went off, really. Did the Nutbush and nearly died, as it was getting near the end of the night and I had my shoes on still. Yas and I nearly squeed out loud when the Time Warp came on. And were the only ones who did it properly. Mickey was another fun one, as always. We even got Sonia up to dance a couple times! Probably because four people dragging her is hard to say no to - and maybe because Josh was dancing with us. He and Sonia get on pretty well, so it probably helped. Josh rocks. He's our little dancing queen - ironic because he's taller than most of us.
Our illustrious School Captain, Sarah's boyfriend was doing the photography for the night, and he ended up taking over 200 shots. We're all getting CDs of them, apparently, so score!
I found it ironic that the last song played was Time Of Your Life by Green Day. Mainly because the full title is ACTUALLY Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life). Heh. But everyone got on the dance floor, and people were hugging and singing. It was cool, really. A few people were crying apparently.
Anyway, after that it was time for the after party! We were going on a cruise around Sydney Harbour and the boat was gonna pick us up right from where the formal was. Managed to find
twilight_mash among the already half drunk guests waiting for us. That was a bit of a shit fight, but OH SO HAPPY to get on that damn boat and get my shoes off. Things were pretty eventful after that. Aside from, you know, one person not being allowed on, some people getting chucked off then a whole bunch leaving after an hour and the cops were called. Other than that, no big! The rest of us stayed on board and danced to crappy dance music and made the most of the night. Was pretty fun after the drama. For the last hour and a bit, Aly, Lauren and I escaped up to the roof level (which was COLD, ok) and chatted with a couple of the guys sitting up there and Yas, Heba and some others joined us eventually. John leant me his coat! I was freezing my ass off up there. Have to admit, we were kinda counting down the minutes before we could leave by then. And we had to watch poor John get molested by Zoe Mooney (left in year 10, I knew her in primary school) after she'd spent the rest of the cruise trying to hook up with EVERY OTHER MALE THERE. God, such a skank seriously. I've never felt so sorry for a member of the human race before. Poor bastard. The third drink he had after that was needed, but probably was helpful.
FINALLY the cruise was over at 4am. We'd just about had it by that point and everyone made their way to the train station at Circular Quay. Definitely given up on my shoes by that point - and walking on treated wood barefoot is WAY MORE PAINFUL than broken glass, by the way. John gave Aly and I his arms to lean on, like a gentleman... except I think we ended up holding him up. I've never been happier to see a train station in my life, though. We were going to stay and have breakfast at a 24 hour cafe around there but... too fucked. Then we ran into people from Heathcote coming home from THEIR formal, so the line for train tickets got a little long. I made Yas wait in line for mine then Aly and I went in search of bathrooms. It's fucking IMPOSSIBLE to find an open one at 4:30 in the morning. Closed for cleaning, my ass. Was so glad when we got to Central Station to change over trains and eventually found the bathrooms there. Was. Not. Comfortable. We ran into everyone who got off the boat then, too. Glad I stayed on, though, because I think they walked around the city for three hours. Forget that. So yeah, eventually the train came and we got on and I was even happier to see Sutherland Station an hour later. And then the shower about 45 minutes after that.
And that was my formal! Short version: was v. good. Had v. much fun.
Man, that was getting a bit repetitive. Anywho, afterwards Aly crashed here 'til earlier today and it took me about that long to get all the dirt off my feet after walking around bare foot for hours. Not cool, man. But yeah, we pretty much did fuck all except watch ice skating videos and slept. It was awesome!
Ok, and before bed time some pictures!
Taken by Dad:

Yas and I in my front yard. Not lame at all.

Us in front of the car. Very shiny.

And again.
Taken by Heba's sister:

That's Lauren, Heba, Sonia, me, Yas and Aimee for those playing the home game.
Taken by Sonia:

Yas and I on our last school bus trip EVAR OMG.

Lauren and I being dorks. Me, moreso.

Sonia and I. So myspace. *feels dirty for typing that* Also, I have a big forehead, there.

Side view of the hair. Candid shot, too. Those are always best.
And that's all I can be bothered posting right now.
Last thing: Drew actually had a compliment about my hair for me. He said I looked like one of the characters from We Will Rock You. So yay for my bro!
So that's the formal. I think it was worth the bruises, swellings and need to wrap my knee for the next day.
